“Mad About US” will get schoolchildren “hooked on history,” by telling the story of America in an exciting new way — through lively songs, dramatic pictures, and inspirational accounts of our country’s greatest leaders. . . . “Mad About US” will teach the basics of American history to children between the ages of 8 and 12 through an imaginative DVD that features a rousing music video of kids rapping about our heritage in lyrics written especially for this project.
Excerpted above is the press release I sent out to publicize “Mad About Us,” a comprehensive program of American history and government I dreamed up in the late 1980s and finally put down on paper shortly after 9-11. Though I’ve yet to find a multimedia publisher to take on the project, teachers have discovered my “History Chant” online and are using it successfully with their students.
