Your Weekly Politickle: THE MASK GAME

Feel free to publish, post, or pass on Your Weekly Politickle by F.R. Duplantier:

THE MASK GAME
Said Gene Rayburn, “Brett, give me your views:
Which of these men would you choose,
A man with a mask
Or a man with a flask?”
“Gene, give me the guy with the booze!”

From the archive

“I’M MASKING FOR A FRIEND”
So you say when you want to pretend
And excuse how far over you’ll bend,
But the more you comply,
The more freedom will die:
That’s not something you do for a friend.

TAKE THIS JAB & SHOVE IT
Take this jab and shove it
I ain’t list’nin’ to you no more
I wore my mask and I social-distanced
What was it all for?
Ya better not try to tell me more lies
’Cause I’m angry to my core
Take this jab and shove it
I ain’t list’nin’ to you no more

I tried to respect authority
And do what I was told
Even though it didn’t make sense
And I was never really sold
And I’ve seen a lot of kinfolk die
Who had the jab and they
Didn’t last long and I bet they wish
They’d had the guts to say

Take this jab and shove it, ETC.

MASKED FEELINGS
Halloween has become a big bore.
I don’t like it as much as before.
What’s the reason? you ask.
I’ve been wearing a mask
For so long it’s no fun anymore.

THE MASK OF AMONTILLADO
“You are welcome to sample this cask,
Fortunato, but one thing I ask:
Before even a sip
Passes over your lip,
You must put on this surgical mask.”

2031
“Was that Karen conserved in a cask?
Did she not get the memo?” we ask.
“The pandemic she fears
Has been over for years.
Tell us why does she still wear a mask?”

KARENS
They are going to take you to task
If you don’t do the thing that they ask:
They don’t care if it works
Or they’re acting like jerks,
They’re compelled to command, “Wear a mask!”

MASK CHARADE
“Look at me! Look at me! Look at me!
I’m as virtuous as can be!”
Says the proud, preening prig
With his chest puffed up big.
Then you look and there’s nothing to see.

Last week’s limerick

TRYING
Each night to bed dejected,
Our lives far from perfected,
Wondering why
We try and try,
Each morning resurrected.
