Obama is the biggest presidential failure in modern history. Obama is unique among presidents in large part because he fails to even recognize his deficiencies and mistakes — or when he does, he learns the wrong lessons and doubles down on his policies. – Investor’s Business Daily

IBD lists 47 “mistakes” that Obama has made during his four years as president, emphasizing that it’s a partial list because they ran out of space. It’s a good list and a good commentary, but why do they insist on referring to deliberately subversive actions as mistakes?

In the 1990s, I wrote articles for Phyllis Schlafly’s Education Reporter about the outrageous things going on in American public schools. I talked to mothers all over the country whose children had been subjected to various kinds of physical and psychological abuse at the hands of teachers and administrators. I ended most of my interviews by asking the mother if she planned to take her traumatized child out of the public school system. Not one of them did. Which raised the question, What would it take — what horrible thing would have to happen to a child — for an ostensibly loving parent to choose the obvious remedy?

This book gives me an eerie sense of deja vu. For the past 50 years or more, the Democratic Party has promoted abortion, contraception, pornography, perversion of every kind, the socialization of our economy, the regimentation of our citizens, the hollowing out of our defense and intelligence agencies, etc. My parents, lifelong Catholic Democrats, left the Party in disgust in 1972 — as did thousands of others. How to explain the thousands who have remained? What will it take to make them leave?

To few Americans is Antonio Gramsci a familiar name. That is to be regretted because the work of the late Italian Marxist sheds much light on our time. It was he who first alerted fellow revolutionaries to the possibility that they would be able to complete the seizure of political power only after having achieved “cultural hegemony,” or control of society’s intellectual life by cultural means alone. His was an incremental, rather than an apocalyptic, revolution — the kind, that is, that we have been witnessing in the United States, and the Western world generally, since the 1960s. With this in mind, we ought not to treat the contemporary “culture war” lightly; the fate of what remains of civilized life may well be decided by its outcome. – Lee Congdon

Nearly 40 years after the death of Senator Joseph R. McCarthy, twice-elected United States Senator from Wisconsin, the term “McCarthyism” is still widely used as a convenient epithet for all that is evil and despicable in the world of politics. Hardly a month passes without some reference to “McCarthyism” in the print or electronic media. Despite the frequency with which the term is invoked, however, it is quite clear that not one critic of McCarthy in a hundred has the slightest idea of what he said and did during that controversial period from 1950 to 1954. – James J.
