Your Weekly Politickle: EVERYONE’S BUSINESS

Feel free to publish, post, or pass on Your Weekly Politickle by F.R. Duplantier:

EVERYONE’S BUSINESS
Though our work be a labor of love,
Still, we have to have help from above:
Yes, we have to depend
On that one special friend
Whom we pray to at whitehouse.gov.

From the archive:

SOLARCENY
Barry’s Bandits have found a new way
To get rich without working a day:
They’ve no need for a gun,
‘Cause they just use the sun
To get ‘loans’ that they’ll never repay.
(2011)

EXPERIENCE
This economy sure is a sad one
And it looks like we’re in for a bad run,
‘Cause we can’t expect gobs
Of legitimate jobs
From a guy who has never once had one.
(2011)

BASIC ECONOMICS
You’ve got thousands in debt to repay,
But you can’t make that debt go away
If you keep on defending
Your gross overspending
Or you cut back just pennies a day.
(2011)

ARTIFICIAL FAMINE
There’s no benefit to coal
If you cannot dig a hole,
And the value is nil
Of oil you can’t drill.
Who would favor such control?
(2011)

THE WEALTH OF RATIONS
If you want to show that you care,
Then you have to learn how to share
And surrender to me
Half your property:
What could possibly be more fair?
(2010)

CRY FOWL!
If it looks like a duck, it’s a duck!
If it swims like a duck, it’s a duck!
Is the question instead,
Is Obama a Red?
If it quacks like a duck, it’s a duck!
(2010)

Last week’s limerick:

NOT SOON ENOUGH
“There is nothing to fret about, friend:
My one term will soon come to an end.
Don’t be down in the dumps:
I’ll be gone in six months.
How much harm can I do before then?”

Tea Party Terror?

For the first time in decades, the left is meeting broad, sustained resistance. Its socialist utopia – so close and yet so far – is slipping away, the victim of economic reality. The entitlement society is unsustainable; it is crumbling under its massive, big-government weight. For progressives, this is why Tea Partyers are “terrorists” – political insurgents who are willing to stand up to the venal, decrepit liberal regime. Yet Tea Partyers are America’s freedom fighters; they are forcing the federal government to begin devolving power back to the people. – Jeffrey Kuhner, Edmund Burke Institute

If this is terror, let’s have more of it!

Oh, Grow Up!

With the success of the anti-tobacconists, every conceivable kind of business could suddenly find itself liable, retroactively, for alleged risks dreamed up by unscrupulous lawyers and their conniving clients. Litigation itself could prove hazardous to our health, and to the health of our free enterprise system. Do we really want to be a nation of victims, a nation of petulant children? This is what we will become if we keep refusing to accept responsibility for our actions. Life is full of risks. The only way to avoid them all is not to get out of bed in the morning, and then you run the risk of muscular atrophy. People make mistakes; it’s part of being human. Some people acknowledge them; some blame others. The ones who accept responsibility are called adults. – “Random Thoughts on Responsibility,” F.R. Duplantier

As much as you may love your parents, would you want to move back home again and be treated like a child? Most people would answer no, but many of those who would are perfectly content to have the government take care of them — and treat them like children. With freedom comes responsibility. Let someone relieve you of your responsibilities and they will soon usurp your freedom. Be a man. Be a woman. Not a victim. Not a child.

Shut Up Already!

Do this! Don’t do that! Eat this repulsive vegetable. Stay away from that tantalizing pastry. Don’t smoke, don’t drink, don’t enjoy any unauthorized pleasure. Don’t make value judgments. Don’t confuse us with facts and logic. Do what you’re told. It’s for your own good. Wear your seatbelt, wear your helmet, wear a pink ribbon. Smile! Nag, nag, nag. Know-it-alls and busybodies everywhere. Aren’t you sick of them? – “Random Thoughts on Guardianship,” F.R. Duplantier

Get used to being told what to do. Our government is going to take better and better care of us in the years ahead.
