The 22 statistics that you are about to read prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that the middle class is being systematically wiped out of existence in America. – Business Insider
The trouble with democracies, Aristotle explained, is that their conceptions of justice are invariably limited ones: “In democracies, justice is considered to mean equality. It does mean equality – but equality for those who are equal, and not for all.” The vagueness of the term and the failure of its employers to apply it judiciously ensure that injustice will be done in the name of equality. Despite their weaknesses, however, democracies tend for one important reason to be a more stable form of government than oligarchies: because of “the character of their middle class, which is more numerous, and is allowed a larger share in the government, than it is in oligarchies. Where democracies have no middle class, and the poor are greatly superior in number,” Aristotle warns, “trouble ensues, and they are speedily ruined.” – “Wise Men Bearing Gifts,” F.R. Duplantier
Today, few speak well of “the ruling class.” Not only has it burgeoned in size and pretense, but it also has undertaken wars it has not won, presided over a declining economy and mushrooming debt, made life more expensive, raised taxes, and talked down to the American people. Americans’ conviction that the ruling class is as hostile as it is incompetent has solidified. The polls tell us that only about a fifth of Americans trust the government to do the right thing. The rest expect that it will do more harm than good and are no longer afraid to say so. – Angelo M. Codevilla
The archbishop of Caracas, Venezuela is denouncing the government’s attempts to install a Marxist Socialist regime through “unconstitutional” and “illegal” methods violating the rights and will of the people. – Zenit
When will our archbishops denounce Obama’s efforts to communize the United States?
Feel free to publish, post, or pass on Your Weekly Politickle by F.R. Duplantier:
“We have lost the dumb voters’ affection
But persist in our leftward direction,
‘Cause they don’t have the gumption
To resist our presumption
And we know how to rig an election.”
From the archive:
NIGHT OF THE VOTING DEAD
“We’ll be summoned from slumberous state
To endorse the quadrennial slate;
Then it’s back to the grave,
Where we’ll try to behave
‘Til the conclave of 2008!”
The polls open and who comes in?
Mary Poppins and Mickey Finn,
Then Betty Boop
And Alley Oop,
Sherlock Holmes and Gunga Din!
There once was a man named Vlad
Who was known for a habit he had:
With such pride in his nailing,
When he took to impaling
No one ever would challenge his chad.
WINNING BY A WHISKER
“Our Party is poised to prevail
With this new registration by mail:
All corpses and cats
Are staunch Democrats,
So our candidates simply can’t fail!”
Last week’s limerick:
I will trade you the Springtime in Spain
For the Autumn in Southern Ukraine,
And the Summer in Mali
For the Winter in Bali –
Plus September in Alsace-Lorraine.
For the first time in American history, we have a man in the White House who consciously and brazenly disregards his oath of office to protect and defend the Constitution. That’s why I say the greatest threat to our Constitution, our safety and our liberties, is internal. Our president is an enemy of our Constitution, and, as such, he is a danger to our safety, our security and our personal freedoms. – Tom Tancredo
What we are seeing is the transplantation of Chicago politics to communities throughout the nation that are completely unprepared for the level of fraud and intimidation that can be generated by thousands of unethical Democrats, including private citizens, local, state, and federal officials, and politicians, convinced that breaking the law is okay as long as the “right” candidate wins. – Fred Dardick
The last active lawsuit seeking to get to the truth of what happened back on July 17, 1996, when TWA 800 blew up off the coast of Long Island, has basically reached the end of the line. – Roger Aronoff
The mystery of Flight 800 is easy to explain in the aftermath of 9-11. The damage to our economy caused by the aviation shutdown was the most devastating result of the latter attack — the reason for the second plane flying into the Trade Center was to ensure that shutdown by preventing the American media from portraying the whole thing as some bizarre accident, as they did for Flight 800.
Though disturbing, the simple explanation for the Flight 800 cover-up is really not that sinister. The establishment — government, media, etc. — sought to prevent the economic devastation that would have resulted if the truth about the incident had been reported and Americans had refused to fly.
